25.1 Objective

25.1.1 This Regulatory Standard stipulates occupational safety and health requirements for industrial waste management.

 

25.2 Scope of Application

25.2.1 This standard applies to all activities related to the management of industrial waste generated from industrial processes.

25.2.2 Industrial wastes refer to solid, liquid, gaseous or mixed wastes produced in industrial processes. Different from domestic wastes in physical, chemical and microbiological properties, they include ashes, sludge, waste oil, alkaline and acidic substances, slag, dust, sediment, leachate, wastes from pollution control facilities, as well as other liquid effluents and polluting gas emissions.

 

25.3 Safety and Health Requirements for Industrial Waste Management Activities

25.3.1 The organization shall reduce occupational exposure to industrial wastes by adopting available optimal technical and management practices.

25.3.2 Industrial wastes shall be disposed of in accordance with relevant laws and specific regulations. It is prohibited to discharge or release any contaminants from such wastes in the workplace that may endanger workers' safety and health.

25.3.3 All measures, methods, equipment and facilities for controlling the discharge of gaseous, liquid and solid contaminants shall be inspected and approved by competent authorities.

25.3.4 Solid wastes and liquid effluents generated from industrial processes shall be collected, packaged, stored, transported, treated and sent for final disposal by the organization in compliance with applicable laws and specific regulations.

25.3.4.1 The organization shall formulate preventive measures in all above procedures to avoid and control risks to workers' safety and health.

25.3.5 Solid wastes and liquid effluents shall be disposed of in accordance with laws and specific regulations.

25.3.5.1 Radioactive wastes shall be disposed of in accordance with the standards issued by the National Nuclear Safety Authority.

25.3.6 Industrial wastes posing biological hazards shall be disposed of in accordance with health and environmental laws.

25.3.7 Workers engaged in collection, handling, packaging, storage, transportation, treatment and disposal of industrial wastes shall receive continuous professional training on relevant occupational hazards and proper preventive measures.
